I’ve just watched that deleted scene from The Last Jedi involving the brief fight between Finn and Captain Phasma (video below) and I have to say…it shouldn’t have been left out.
I had a big problem with the way Phasma was handled in the movie (read about it here) and while this scene doesn’t come anywhere close to addressing that it does reveal a little more about her mentality.
Phasma, it seems, isn’t First Order first, everything else last as you might expect. No, she has a strong sense of self preservation, evidenced very well in this deleted scene even more than when she shut down Starkiller base’s shields under threat. Maybe it poses more questions than it answers, but it makes her character far more interesting to me.
